Even before i start making points about the significance of language, There is a question for all the readers. How did we as individuals start speaking? Yes, it starts with uttering words which made no relevance. But as we grow old, the influence of the surroundings starts to sink in. Native language is one of those influences for the kid during this initial phase of his/her life. The moment kid starts to speak in the language of their origin, There is a great deal of happiness that the parents tend to enjoy. That is the first stage of life, when kids grow up and reach the age of schooling. Our first interaction and importance of friends is felt here. Now, how does the introduction go on? We start with our names and then may be talk about few silly things in classroom and that is how we move on. During the 10 phases of Schooling, we continue to build in relation with the minimal of expectation. There is no existence of Status Quo here. All the time it is about trust and the value we posses for each other. It is not even for a moment's time, that we feel the importance of language. Because we pick up the language that we are comfortable and that is most likely to be the native language. But, then we enter into a phase of life, where the importance of one language is at display all the time. This is the language the world calls "ENGLISH".
Moving on from Schooling to the next phase i.e College. This time around, even parents want their kids to speak in English. This sprung up a question in my mind. Parents who were happy seeing the kid speak the regional language, have suddenly decided to switch the language to English. Why is this the case? Let's understand this question from the position of a parent. They want their children to be successful in life by fetching a rightful job. For which one of the major criteria, Is to posses powerful command on the language of English. This seems to work in favor of both Parent and child. But, this is fair as long as it is restricted to the curriculum and the place of work in case of employed individuals. The problem starts of when the same is carried over to home. Because, parents stay in the life of their children all through their lives. The point worth noting here is, How will we stand as an example for the upcoming generation. Because is language is the key mode of communication by which people express their views. What is the future is not even sure of the language that their ancestors spoke in. Food for thought guys...
This is also a reason why, most of the individuals pursing degree/post graduate programs available across universities these days have reduced in number. Where will these lead to? In the near future we may not even come across degree programs supporting these fields. Which the sad part.
As we have seen for, The influence of foreign language on our nation, Is pushing us to a stage where we are slowly but surely losing our nativity. This is precisely the time when i look up to countries like China, Japan, Korea and few other Asian countries. In these countries their national language is clearly at display on the hoardings put at Stores, Digital lights on Public vehicles.. They don't see the necessity to learn another language to make their living. But when we compare it ourselves, we have moved to a time where in the need to language is big time. So, we are left with no other option but to learn a foreign language. This is a social virus that has started to infect all of us. We as a nation will need to stop this and learn of alternative ways by which our culture and native language can be staged up.
So, i urge all the readers to encourage their native language across their culture and community. Because that is the only way by which we can safe guard the future of our native language. Please encourage the upcoming generation to take up our language to keep the national spirit intact.
